New Official Plan and Zoning By-Law

Combined Statutory Public Meeting to be held on November 28, 2024 to Present Final Draft Official Plan and Final Draft Zoning By-law.

The Final Community Background Report has been prepared to direct the Town of Fort Frances New Official Plan and Comprehensive Zoning By-law Review.

The Town would like to thank the members of the community who attended the second Public Open House at La Place Rendezvous the evening of July 6, 2023!

Since the Official Plan and Zoning By-law guide and regulate where and how future growth and development in the Town will occur, it is important to have a wide variety of input into the review of these documents to help establish a common vision.

Over the past few months, Town staff and their consultant, WSP, have been developing the Draft Official Plan. The Draft Official Plan will be sent to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing for their first review this month and is anticipated to be ready for public review in Summer 2024.

The objectives and policies of the Official Plan and the requirements of the Zoning By-law attempt to achieve a balanced approach to economic development, land development, land use, infrastructure, and resource management issues affecting the Town.

A Zoning By-law is a legal document and planning tool which implements the policies of the Official Plan by establishing various zones and standards.

The Official Plan sets out the vision, goals, objectives, and policies for growth and development within the City for the next 25 years.
