National Peacekeeper's Day - August 9, 2023
August 9th marks the anniversary of the greatest single loss of Canadian lives on a peacekeeping mission.
On August 9th, 1974, nine Canadian Peacekeepers were killed when their plane was shot down by Syrian air missiles.
National Peacekeeper's Day is recognized on Wednesday, August 9 to honour and remember all Canadian peacekeepers who have served or are currently serving in support of peace operations around the world.
The flags have been lowered on the Flag Poles at the Civic Centre as a symbol of mourning and to show our deepest respect.
