Proclamation on the 100th Birthday of Clora J. McEvoy

WHEREAS, Clora J. McEvoy (nee Dumeney) was born in Mine Centre on July 5th, 1925, in Thunder Bay; and

WHEREAS, Clora did her patriotic duty working at CanPar during Word War II, assisting in the war effort and after the war moved to Fort Frances; and

WHEREAS, Clora raised a family of seven after her husband was killed in a car accident, attending night school while working during the day in order to complete her secondary education; and

WHEREAS, Clora then trained as a registered nurses assistant in order to support her family; and

WHEREAS, Clora is a life-time member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Legion Colour Guard; and

WHEREAS, Clora has served as a community volunteer including delivering Meals on Wheels; and

WHEREAS, Clora most recently participated in the annual Alzheimer’s Walk this past May at the age of ninety-nine; and

WHEREAS, Clora is a long-time productive and outstanding member of our community, always willing to lend a helping hand,

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Andrew Hallikas, proclaim July 5th, a special day in the Town of Fort Frances to honour a special lady and an ideal resident on the occasion of her hundredth birthday; and

FURTHER, I encourage all citizens of Fort Frances to wish Clora J. McEvoy a very happy 100th birthday.
