Terry Fox Flag Raising
WHEREAS, in 1980, Terry Fox embarked on his courageous Marathon of Hope with the vision of raising one dollar for every Canadian in support of cancer research; and
WHEREAS, Terry’s determination and unwavering spirit have left an enduring legacy of hope, resilience, and unity that continues to inspire individuals and communities across our nation; and
WHEREAS, cancer has touched the lives of countless individuals – be they family members, friends, or neighbours – and has strengthened our shared resolve to work together toward a future free of this disease; and
WHEREAS, on September 14th, 2025, our community will proudly host the 45th Annual Terry Fox Run, honouring Terry’s dream and renewing our commitment to advancing cancer research and supporting all those affected; and
WHEREAS, the raising of this flag stands as a solemn symbol of remembrance, courage, and collective strength, representing every member of our community whose life has been touched by cancer; and
WHEREAS, by raising the flag, we affirm our support for the Terry Fox Foundation and our dedication to coming together as a community in the spirit of hope, peace, and perseverance.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Andrew Hallikas of the Town of Fort Frances, proclaim that this flag is hereby raised in honour of Terry Fox, his extraordinary vision, and the enduring strength of our community as we continue his mission of hope,
AND FURTHER, that I encourage all residents to take a moment to reflect on the legacy of Terry Fox today, 45 years after he began his Marathon of Hope, and I further call on all those able to participate in this years Terry Fox run if possible, and/or donate generously to this noble cause
