Proclamation of Friendship

WHEREAS, the City of International Falls and the Town of Fort Frances are neighbours and friends; and

WHEREAS, we are neighbors by geography and friends by choice; and

WHEREAS, we have been friends for a very long time and will continue to be friends for a very long time; and

WHEREAS, we are sister cities; and

WHEREAS, the residents of International Falls are always welcome in Fort Frances and the residents of Fort Frances are always welcome in International Falls; and

WHEREAS, the fact that there is a trade and tariff dispute between our federal governments does not negate our friendship; and

WHEREAS, Canada and the United States are two different sovereign notions, our similarities are greater than our differences; and

WHEREAS, the people of Fort Frances and International Falls have had a friendship that has endured for many years and that this friendship will always endure, regardless of governmental disputes; and

WHEREAS, Together our municipal partnership represents a powerful example of cross-border collaboration – one that leads by example and shows that local communities can remain connected and cooperative, with the hope that our federal counterparts will recognize and follow our lead.

NOW THEREFORE, We, Mayor Drake Dill of International Falls and Mayor Andrew Hallikas of the Town of Fort Frances by the power invested in us, do hereby proclaim enduring friendship between the City of International Falls and the Town of Fort Frances and further that we welcome the residents of each other’s community to our respective Community, and we encourage them to visit with each other and attend each other’s events.
