Changes to Specific Town Services

The Town of Fort Frances is implementing the following actions with a focus on maintaining operational continuity of essential services during this period.

The Town will continue to maintain all essential services.

Civic Centre

The Town of Fort Frances is pleased to announce that the Civic Centre is now open by appointment only.

To limit the number of patrons to the Civic Centre during the COVID-19 pandemic, we will continue to make every effort possible to handle matters over the phone, via email or mail. Residents wishing to make payment can continue to use online services, sign up for automatic payment withdrawal or deposit payments in the drop box located at the front entrance of the Civic Centre.

The Civic Centre’s hours of operations are:

  • Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
  • We will be closed 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm for Lunch for the foreseeable future.

All appointments will be made during operating hours. All patrons will be required to wear a mask and answer screening questions.

Memorial Sports Center

  • The Memorial Sports Centre is open by appointment only for the Pool, Gym, and squash courts. Please call 274-4561 to book an appointment. All other areas within the MSC remain closed to the Public at this time.
  • Memberships have now been activated again, starting on August 5th, 2020. We have added the time we were closed to the end of your membership so no time has been lost due to COVID 19.
  • A fall session is being planned in the pool, and for fitness activities, once more information is available it will be communicated to the Public.
  • Tennis courts are open.

Sorting Gap Marina

  • The Sorting Gap Marina and McIrvine Boat Launches are open.
  • Dock Slip rentals are available on the ActiveNet site under the Spring 2020 season.

Museum, Library, Senior Center, Sunny Cove Camp

  • These facilities are all closed to the public.

Public Works Office

  • The Public Works Office is closed to the public.

Water and Sewer

  • All in-building work (such as plugged sewers) has been suspended.
  • Citizen’s are urged to not flush anything except for human waste and toilet paper down toilets. Wipes are not flushable!

Waste Management

  • The Landfill is open.
  • Cash is not being accepted at the Landfill. The scale shack accepts credit and debit and has tap to pay.
  • Citizens are expected to practice physical distancing when out of their vehicles and dumping garbage into the landfill.

Parks

  • Point Park Beach is open, users are reminded to practice physical distancing.
  • One public washroom is open at the Point Park for users. Users are to note that the washrooms are disinfected twice daily and users are using at their own risk.
  • Park equipment is being opened as time permits crews to complete necessary work.
  • Picnic areas in parks are open.
  • All green spaces are open for walk-through access, but individuals must always maintain a physical distance of at least two metres apart from others.

Cemeteries

Airport

  • The Fort Frances Airport Terminal is closed to the public, other than those arriving or departing by aircraft.
  • Operating hours have not changed.
  • Airfield maintenance services are being completed as usual, including aircraft fueling.

Fire Rescue Service

From April 1st, 2020 to October 31st, 2020, no open-air burning is permitted. This means that you cannot burn wood piles, brush piles, grass, or leaves. However, fire pits are permitted.

This fire ban is being implemented as a precautionary measure to limit nonessential calls for service, as well as to avoid any additional strain or exposure risk to the members of our Fire Rescue Service.
