Town Hall Weddings
Thinking of having a Town Hall Wedding?
If you are:
- Wanting to get married with little planning;
- Wanting to save money;
- Wanting to have someone close to you do the ceremony at your big wedding, but they're not legally able to officiate; OR
- Wanting to get married right away.
If you said yes to one of the above reasons, or just think a Town Hall wedding is right for you and your partner, we're happy to help give you your special day.
What to expect?
There are two options for your wedding.
Option A: (book Option A online)
- Have one appointment where the marriage licence and wedding are done all at one appointment.
- Approximately 1 hour in total.
- Choice of indoors or outdoors at 320 Portage Ave (can choose at time of ceremony).
- No choice in decorations.
- Available pre-determined dates. Now booking: August 22nd, September 20th, October 31st.
Option B:
- Plan wedding with officiant in 2-3 appointments for applying for a marriage licence, completing the wedding booking, and show up for ceremony.
- Choice of indoors or outdoors at 320 Portage Ave.
- Able to do light decorating, music, and other preparations.
- Booking dependent on officiant availability.
- Choice of weekday, or depending on officiant availability, evening and weekend (for higher cost) available.

Option B can be:
- Booked by contacting the Deputy Clerk (contacts at bottom of page)
How much does it cost?
Per the 2024 fee, the costs for Town Hall weddings would be as follows:
- Marriage licence $153
- Administrative fee $100 +HST (applied to all ceremonies)
- $250 +HST Council Chambers ceremony fee(during weekday, 8-4pm)
- $350 +HST Council Chambers ceremony fee (evenings and weekends)
Who would marry us?
The Deputy Clerk provides all Option A ceremonies. The Deputy Clerk is the primary for Option B, but the Municipal Clerk also provides ceremonies.
What do we need?
- Complete your marriage licence application form
- Have two pieces of valid, government issued ID each (excluding health cards - see full list of what's acceptable)
- Original divorce paperwork from prior marriage
- Payment in form of cash, debit, or cheque payable to the Town of Fort Frances. Credit cards are not acceptable.
How else can we prepare?
