Age Requirements

In the Province of Ontario, in accordance with the Marriage Act, people eighteen (18) years of age and above can obtain a marriage licence provided the completed application and additional required information is submitted.

If you are sixteen (16) or seventeen (17) years of age, you must submit a completed Consent of Parent or Guardian to Marriage form signed by both parents or legal guardians when you apply for a marriage licence. A paper copy is also available from the Clerk's office. (If the consent form does not open, try downloading it and opening it up from your computer).
